Objectives

The proposals in the attached document, present

(1) a summary of the key principles and key objectives to be used in developing policy;
(2) definitions of the meaning of words used to define objectives; and
(3) a set of Key Values and High Level Objectives for each length of the coastline (which can be downloaded below).

This document is in draft form requiring an input from Key Stakeholders before finalisation. In reviewing the Key Objectives and High Level Objectives, please bear in mind that these have been raised by stakeholders and, as such, represent the aspirations of the community for the future management of the coastline. The approach taken so far is “not to rule anything in or out”. It is acknowledged that some of the stated objectives may conflict with others. Consequently, the Objectives should not be regarded as those set for the future development of the SMP policies. There is another step in the process before the final set of SMP objectives can be identified which considers the acceptability or otherwise of the consequences of trying meet these objectives. This is where the question of sustainability enters the decision-making process. No-one is being asked to “sign-up” to these objectives but to agree that they cover the full range of “aspirational” objectives for the coastline. We would encourage you to review and comment on these documents via the “Contact Us” page of this website.
